On Saturday August 28th during this year’s alternative Tønder Festival festivities, we celebrated the release of our new anniversary album with the duo Jensen & Bugge. We have recorded 15 new versions of some of the greatest hits we know from the Danish folk music catalog and with that we mark that our duo now is 20 years old!
We’re looking a lot forward to bring this new record along for all kinds of concerts in the near future, take a look at our website calendar or order the album straight from our record company’s website: www.folkshop.dk
It’s a great pleasure to be featured on this new CD with this fine duo! I was even invited to take part in the release concert at the amazing “Musik over Præstø Fjord” festival on August 6th 2021. It was a very festive concert, where we put together the celebrations of both the new album and the 60th birthday of my friend, guitarist Mortens Alfred Høirup!
I’m very happy to have been invited to guest on this project and what a party we had that weekend! Lot’s of good, musician friends could finally meet again around some of the things we love the most: music, dancing and hour-long jam sessions, thank you so much for that!
It looks like the quiet time we’ve had, have made many musicians go into the studio and record new music. Here’s the first album out that I’m really excited to announce that I’ve been invited to play along on: “Mette Kathrine – Familiealbum”! The following musicians are participating:
Mette Kathrine Jensen Stærk, accordion Vegar Vårdal, fiddle Johs Stærk, guitar, mandolin Ditte Fromseier Hockings, fiddle Julian Svejgaard Jørgensen, piano Kamilla Sørensen, organ Kristian Bugge, fiddle Morten Alfred Høirup, guitar
Final recordings for the upcoming album with Steen Jagd’s compositions are now in the box! We are very much looking forward to releasing this great music that far too few have heard so far 🥳 🎻🎹🕺🇩🇰
Christmas is just around the corner – and what better last-minute gift for a loved one than a BC album? Well-you’re in luck because all of our music is now available over on Bandcamp! (It’d be great to have a few more followers over there too, so if you’re popping by for a listen….)
Music can conjure such a perfect palette of emotions, and these days a shared joy in experiencing music is one of the things that many of us miss but are basically obliged to discard. But maybe you can brighten someone’s day a tiny bit with some of our most cheerful moments from the past years.
Stay well and safe! Best regards from, Baltic Crossing / Antti Järvelä, Esko Järvelä, Ian Stephenson, Andy May, Kristian Bugge
I have thrown myself into a project where I post a new little video with a Danish fiddle tune every day in June. Local, traditional music in local settings from around Denmark. I have been fascinated and inspired by the many good colleagues around the world, who have made these kinds of projects. And at the moment when the activity of tours, school concerts, etc. is rather low, I thought: if not now, then when? And after I came up with a title for the project, I decided to give this experiment a try!
The little clips are uploaded both on Youtube and Facebook 🙂
I hope it will spread joy and look forward to hearing what you think of the idea and if anyone has any suggestions or (tune) wishes!? Best summer greetings to all!
My friend, Bill Peterson, is now offering free shipments throughout the U.S. via his record company, Missouri Valley Music in South Dakota.
To back up the weekly online concerts every Sunday (2 o’clock central standard time in the U.S.) that I’m playing from my apartment in Copenhagen, we’re offering these selected titles (see picture) for only $15 a piece including the postage during the next two weeks. Check it out Missouri Valley Music here www.missourivalleymusic.com or email Bill at missourivalleymusic@sio.midco.net and he can invoice via pay pal.
All the best, stay safe and active with the music!
My good friend and fiddlers-colleague, Steen Jagd Andersen and I have taken the opportunity the past weeks to meet regularly (while keeping the distance) to practice a repertoire of Steens own compositions. A project that we started already some years back together with pianist Malene D. Beck. We’re now working on polishing the music and getting it ready for a recording later this year, more about that in a near future. A taster is already to be found here on youtube.
Between the rehearsals we also stumbled over a schottish-tune from the playing of Dwight Lamb, that we both really like. And it turns out that Steen had made an arrangement of it, here it is for download if you like!
It’s our big pleasure to announce that the “Dwight Lamb’s Danish Tunes – 2nd edition with 5 bonus tunes added” is now available and even with International Shipping! We’ve been working hard on this the past weeks and hope it can be good timing for some of you tune players out there. We hope to help relieve some of the world wide cabin fever that many music lovers have to deal with these days.
So we offer 46 old tunes from the playing of Dwight Lamb and his Danish Grandpa, Chris Jerup and Dwight’s Dad, Clarence Lamb. Transcribed by Jensen & Bugge, published by Edition Svitzer. Warm greetings, stay safe and keep the music flowing!
A bit over four years have passed since our first release, Gangspil. However, we haven’t been laying on the lazy side. Besides numerous small tours at home, in Germany, Belgium, Finland and France, we have performed over a 100 concerts in the US and Canada. From being a trio, we are now a duo, that has given us the opportunity to dig deeper into the unisone duo-playing that is at the core of our music. It has also given us the freedom to play with different musicians, each of whom in their own unique way contributes an extra dimension. All this can be heard on this album. Thank you so much, Malene, Vidar, Jacob, Lisbeth and Peter. Our repertoire is constantly growing and four years is a long time. That’s why you’re now holding something as old-fashioned as a double album in your hands. Therefore Gangspil 2. We hope it will bring joy!
The album is exclusively only released in physical form, but our record company will gladly ship it world wide, more via this link!
