Mette Kathrine Jensen Stærk and I have produced two chapters about Dwight Lamb and his music as a part of the podcast series Jysk Guld – Folkemusik i Danmark.
Dwight Lamb grew up in Iowa, USA with a Danish grandfather by the name of Chris Jerup. Chris came to the US in 1893 with his wife and two kids. But he also brough an accordion and a fiddle with him, because his dad back in Denmark was a very active and well-known musician in the northern region of Vendsyssel, known by the name Kræn Jerup. Chris passed the tunes on to Dwight, who continued to play his whole life, all the way to his passing as 90-year old on September 29th 2024.
Mette and I were lucky enough to meet Dwight on our first trip to the US in 2008. Det became the beginning to a warm friendship and countless trips, concerts, dance evenings and jamsessions.
Both podcast-chapters (presented in English) can be found both via the Radiofolk.dk website and on a number of podcast-systems (Apple Podcast, Spotify, Amazon Podcast, PocketCast and more) – just search for ‘Jysk Guld – Dwight Lamb’.
Enjoy and please help us spread the knowledge about these podcasts and the unique story about Dwight!
